DACHSER acquires logistics software provider kasasi

This acquisition strengthens the logistics provider’s digital expertise in telematics, connectivity, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT).

On October 25, 2022, DACHSER acquired a majority share in software provider kasasi GmbH. Based, like DACHSER, in Kempten in southern Germany’s Allgäu region, this SME employs 50 people. The two companies have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

Founded in 2009, kasasi develops innovative software products that optimize and bring transparency to transport processes for road, rail, and waterways. “As a highly innovative provider of connectivity and IoT applications, kasasi perfectly augments our own digital competences,” says Stefan Hohm, Chief Development Officer (CDO) and member of the DACHSER Executive Board. “kasasi’s platform combines telematics data from our more than 8,500 swap bodies and 5,000 trailers with shipment and planning data from our core transport management system, Domino. The intelligent combination and analysis of this data opens up entirely new possibilities for planning transports, calculating arrival times, and even tracing and managing shipments.”

DACHSER’s first step was to acquire a majority share in kasasi on October 25, 2022. It will acquire the remaining shares in increments and complete the acquisition by 2026. kasasi will continue to be managed by its General Manager Markus Lechner and his experienced team. The company will continue to serve existing customers in the rail, retail, food, and pharmaceutical industries as before. Future expansion will focus on the business of monitoring and analysis solutions for transportation by rail.

“With DACHSER as the majority shareholder, we can keep our success story going and focus all our attention on developing pioneering transport and logistics software,” says Lechner, who worked at DACHSER for many years prior to founding the start-up. “Going forward, this stability and security will benefit our staff and especially our customers.”

Dynamics and innovative strength

Systematic digitalization plays a key role in DACHSER’s efforts to further optimize and strengthen its customers’ supply chains. “With the right digital technologies, we can raise efficiency even more, integrated our customers closely into our processes, and transport more goods with the existing load capacity. Increasing transparency improves planning and shortens the time it takes to respond to any disruptions in supply chains,” emphasizes Burkhard Eling, CEO of DACHSER. “This is why we have acquired kasasi—a dynamic company with a great deal of innovative strength in the area of supply chain visibility and connectivity. We are also still investing in our own IT and software development with a staff of around 560 employees, our research and development work at the DACHSER Enterprise Lab in collaboration with Fraunhofer IML, and not least in our global ideas and innovation management.”
