Dachser workforce increases from 15,000 to 17,100 in 2007

Kempten, 27 February 2008. Dachser has continued the positive development it has notched up in recent years. In fiscal 2007, the international logistics provider increased its sales from EUR 3.1 billion to EUR 3.5 billion. Today, over 17,000 employees work for the Kempten-based company at 297 locations around the world.

Bernhard Simon, the Dachser management spokesman, believes that the company’s strategy has paid off: “For years now, we have been systematically developing our international logistics network. Our growth clearly shows that customers appreciate intelligent logistics. The combination of a tightly-meshed logistics network and state-of-the-art IT solutions is well-received by the market, and has brought us almost 13% growth in our sales. That’s 2.2% more than last year.”

All told, in 2007 the logistics provider transported 39.1 million consignments weighing a total 25.8 million tonnes. The tonnage shipped by the company was thus 24% higher than it had been in 2006. Simon was particularly pleased to report the persistently positive development in the number of employees. At the end of 2007, Dachser employed a total of 17,100 staff, of whom 9,500 work in the company’s home country, Germany. That number is 800 higher than it was last year.

All three business segments contribute to sales growth

The sales in Dachser’s core business, European Logistics (consolidated goods transport within Europe), rose 12% in 2007. The business segment accounts for 64% of all Dachser’s sales.

The Dachser Air & Sea Logistics business segment also made an important contribution to the company’s strong performance in 2007, improving its results by 21%. The global network for international logistics, which focuses particularly on the Americas, Europe and Asia, generated some 20% of the Dachser group’s total sales.

The third business segment, Dachser Food Logistics, posted a 13% increase in sales in 2007. Dachser, one of the leading providers of food logistics in Germany, offers a combination of full-coverage transport networks and contract logistics.

Positive outlook for 2008

The current fiscal year has got off to a good start. At the end of December 2007, Dachser added a further key element to its eastern European strategy. The logistics provider founded a joint venture in Russia.
“Eastern Europe is an interesting growth market, and Dachser will continue to expand its activities there,” explains Michael Schilling, managing director of Dachser’s European Logistics business segment. “We are growing strategically along with our customers, and in their markets.”

“In the next five years, we shall be investing even more heavily in expanding our global network and in the quality of our services,” Bernhard Simon adds. Dachser has therefore boosted the volume it will be investing over the next five years to EUR 1.0 billion.
